How to Solve the Scorched Sun Puzzles

Set the cathedral dials to Sun, Heart, Brain. The optional Weight Puzzle leads to a coffin fight whose reward, combined with a herb, raises your max health to 150. Melt the chain with a strong dissolvent brewed from the wine bottle and the odorless blue vial. Put each of the six chess pieces in its own spot, using the table at the bottom of this page.

The solutions below assume you already carry every chess piece and weight. The game warns you if one is still missing.

Spoiler warning: this page names items, locations and a boss fight openly.

Cathedral Combination

The combination is Sun, Heart, Brain.

It comes from the note on the pedestal. The words in that note that shake are the three symbols you need, in order.

The dials that should show Heart and Brain are too damaged to read. Every dial uses the same symbol layout, though, so look at an intact dial, see where Heart and Brain sit on it, and turn the broken dials to those same positions.

Weight Puzzle and Coffin (Optional)

This puzzle is optional. It is a side route with a health upgrade at the end, done in three steps.

  1. Sort the weights from heaviest to lightest. The order is not given here, so you have to work it out by weighing. The scale holds only one weight on each side: put two weights against each other, note which is heavier, and repeat with other pairs until you know the full order. Getting the order right gives you the stone heart.
  2. Place the stone heart. Use it on the middle bookcase on the north-most wall of the library.
  3. Open the coffin. This needs the amulet, which you dig up from the first mound of dirt in the first courtyard, west of the library. Interacting with the coffin starts a boss fight, so only touch it once you are ready.

The fight drops the lunar tear. Take it to the alchemy lab and combine it with a herb there to raise your max health to 150.

Chain Puzzle

The chain melts under a strong dissolvent. Brew one at any alchemy station from these two items:

ItemWhere to find it
Wine bottleOn a desk in the eastern rooms of the second courtyard
Odorless blue vialIn the north-most room of the second courtyard, the one with two dig mounds

That room has four vials. Only the top left one matters. The other three just fill your inventory, so leave them.

Once you have the strong dissolvent, use it on the chain to melt it.

Chess Puzzle

Put each of the six pieces in its own spot in the room.
