Abys Orbit: ApexGate Guide, All 4 Gates
To open an ApexGate in Abys Orbit you buy Energy Spins in the Command Center until one of the four gates has collected enough Gate Parts. Then you select Prepare Jump and fly out to the private portal it opens for you. Clearing that gate means destroying all 432 NPCs inside it, across ten sections. The payout at the end scales with the tier, from 20,000 Orbidium at Alpha up to 80,000 at Delta.
All four gates hold the same enemies in the same order. What separates them is the number of parts they need, from 34 for Alpha up to 128 for Delta. Each gate also carries a difficulty multiplier, x1 at Alpha through to x4 at Delta. Lose all three lives inside and the gate collapses with your parts still in it. Every number on this page is the value the game uses at the time of writing, and a balance pass can change any of them.
How to Build an ApexGate
Gates are built from the Command Center, on its ApexGate panel. The only thing that feeds a gate is Energy Spins: each spin returns a random reward, and Gate Parts are one of the things it can return.
Energy Spin Cost
A spin costs 100 Orbidium. Stored Energy is spent ahead of Orbidium, so while you are carrying Energy your spins draw on that instead. Spins are bought in batches of 1x, 5x, 10x or 100x.
Energy Spin Rewards
These are the odds on a single spin.
| Reward | Chance |
|---|---|
| Ammo | 67% |
| Xenomit x15 | 14% |
| Gate Part | 14% |
| Repair Coupon x1 | 4% |
| R&D File x1 | 1% |
Two thirds of your spins come back as ammunition. The Gate Part line is the only one that moves a build forward, and it lands on roughly one spin in seven.
Possible Ammo Rewards
When a spin rolls ammo, the payout is one of these.
| Ammo | Amount |
|---|---|
| DLB-25 | 100 |
| TLB-50 | 80 |
| SPA-50 | 80 |
| ULB-100 | 40 |
| TR-3 | 10 |
| Explosive Mine | 3 |
Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta: Parts and Difficulty
Each gate asks for its own number of Gate Parts and carries its own difficulty multiplier. That multiplier scales enemy HP, shields and damage, and it scales what those enemies drop as well. A kill in Delta pays four times what the same kill pays in Alpha.
| Gate | Gate Parts | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Alpha | 34 | x1 |
| Beta | 48 | x2 |
| Gamma | 82 | x3 |
| Delta | 128 | x4 |
You do not choose where a part goes. The game spreads parts across the four gates for you, and a gate becomes ready to use the moment it reaches its number.
Spin Multipliers
Parts are not wasted on a finished gate. A part that arrives for a gate which has already hit its number becomes a Spin Multiplier instead, and these stack as high as x6. This is a reward multiplier and has nothing to do with the gate’s difficulty multiplier.
A stacked Multiplier is spent on the next spin you make, and it multiplies whatever that spin returns. A x6 sitting on a spin that rolls a Gate Part hands over six parts at once. Spinning while a Multiplier is stacked is what makes a large build go faster.
Entering the Gate
- Finish collecting the parts the gate needs.
- Select Prepare Jump.
- A portal of your own opens on the X-1 map.
- Fly out to that portal.
- Enter the ApexGate.
The portal and the gate behind it are yours alone. No other player can come in.
Lives
Every gate run starts with three lives. Dying inside sends you back to X-1 and costs one life, and you can then fly to the portal and go again. Lose the third and the gate collapses: the parts you spent on it are gone, and you collect the whole set from zero before you get another attempt.
Extra lives can be bought with Orbidium, and the price goes up with each additional life.
ApexGate Sections and NPCs
Every gate, at every tier, runs the same ten sections and the same 432 enemies. Each section opens with a short countdown before its enemies spawn.
| Section | NPC | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Vagus | 40 |
| 2 | Scoria | 40 |
| 3 | Sentina | 40 |
| 4 | Pestis | 80 |
| 5 | Vastator | 20 |
| 6 | Obsidion | 80 |
| 7 | Aethelon | 20 |
| 8 | Exterminatus | 80 |
| 9 | Monarchus | 16 |
| 10 | Obsidionus | 16 |
More than half the run, 240 of the 432 kills, sits in sections 4, 6 and 8.
Gate Completion Rewards
Destroying all 432 NPCs completes the gate and pays out the following.
| Reward | Alpha | Beta | Gamma | Delta |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Orbidium | 20,000 | 40,000 | 60,000 | 80,000 |
| ULB-100 | 20,000 | 40,000 | 60,000 | 80,000 |
| Experience | 4,000,000 | 8,000,000 | 12,000,000 | 16,000,000 |
| Honor | 100,000 | 200,000 | 300,000 | 400,000 |
| Repair Coupons | 2 | 4 | 6 | 8 |
| R&D Files | 2 | 4 | 6 | 8 |
That is the completion payout on its own. Everything the NPCs drop on the way through is yours as well, on top of the table.
ApexGate Rings
Finishing a gate awards a commemorative Gate Ring, and each of the four has its own. The rings are visible to other players, so they act as a record of which gates you have cleared.
Beginner Tips
Make your first gate an Alpha. It is the lowest difficulty of the four, and it is the cheapest place to learn how the sections, the countdown and the lives behave.
Whichever gate you jump into, go in ready:
- Strong lasers
- Shields to match
- A hull repaired to full before the jump
- Ammunition for 432 kills
